Leadership

Leadership.....

Mother Theresa, Ghandi, John F. Kennedy, Sr., my mother, Marina, Katie, Tim; all leaders to me. What do they have in common, you ask?

Commitment, inspiration, perseverence, team players, balance of work and life, continuous improvement, willing to take risks, reflection, appreciation of the total person.

Hopefully, I will emulate their attitude and ethics.

Who are your inspirations for leadership?

That's pretty heady company for someone who's been a teacher for 36 years.

For me leaders are people who inspire you to want to do better, to learn, to give back.

A leader knows that "much is required of those to whom much has been given."

I have to agree with Katie and having been under her technology leadership for 3 years I agree with Kathy for including her. Katie was my mentor into the digital world. I was always amazed at how she knew to how to do something and when I asked how she knew she said she played with it until she figured it out. I truly could not keep up with Katie or technology and was relieved when I got a teaching position teaching science. I am sure Kathy has learned much from Katie and is now willing to go out and lead in her own right. Sounds like solid leadership to me. Leaders pass on their knowledge and help others succeed.

Well I usually look for people who have been doing something longer than I have for leadership, which I guess everyone does. I def. look towards the teachers who have been teaching for many years. I often find myself looking at some of the older teachers in my building wondering, "They seem so calm. They really know what they are doing. I hope someday that someone will look up to me for leadership skills." - Yet I do not have aspirations at all for an admin position. I want to make my different as a teacher. I want to fight for the rights of teachers as a teacher.
